World-first for Lotus at Autosport International

Written by: Neil

We all love a good racing car here in the Petrol News office and now one of the most iconic racing marques of all time will be carrying out a world-first in the coming weeks.

Next year's Autosport International will be taking place at the Birmingham NEC from January 12th to 15th and the show in 2017 promises to be a barnstormer of an event, with a celebration of 50 years since the Lotus type 49 first took to the track.

To commemorate the occasion, Lotus have brought together all seven of the remaining type 49 models in the world, with each to be displayed in front of the eager crowds.

It promises to be an exciting occasion, as the type 49 is a true racing icon, with the model having been raced from 1967 to 1970 and seating some of the greatest names in racing history – Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jo Siffert, Jackie Oliver, Mario Andretti, Jochen Rindt, Richard Attwood, John Miles and Emerson Fittipaldi.

We're sure the showcase will go down a treat with all lovers of classic F1!

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, adds: "The type 49 was one of the great cars of the early F1 era and to commemorate such a racing icon will be a real treat for all those in attendance at this year's show."
