Will Haas have what it takes to upset the rest?

Written by: Neil

We're all getting excited for the start of the new Formula 1 season and with American newcomers Haas unveiling their car this month, what can we expect from the likes of Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez in 2016?

Both drivers will soon be competing in their maiden season for the team and both have a strong pedigree in Formula 1, but with the team yet to compete in open racing there really is no way to know where Haas will be against the rest.

It is a conundrum that fans of the pinnacle of motorsport are excited to have cleared up, but from the latest reports, the team is firmly keeping its feet on the ground.

Indeed, Haas team principal Gunther Steiner told BBC Sport: "Our goal with this car is to score points. First, we need to go out there and show that we can do the job, that we can finish races, that we are respected by the fans and other teams in the paddock.

"Then, we want to score points. That is the ultimate goal."

Taking on the likes of McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull and the rest will be no mean feat this year, with Haas a relative unknown in the world of F1.

All eyes will therefore be on the Australian Grand Prix next month, when many of the questions surrounding performance and pace for teams and drivers up and down the paddock will be answered – and we can't wait!
