Vauxhall’s Nürburgring king priced from £33,375; Insignia GSi coming March

Written by: Neil

Vauxhall doesn’t symbolise performance or aggression to many people and there’s the sense that the brand itself knows this because it will soon market one of its fastest models ever.

The Insignia GSi is the performance variant of Vauxhall’s flagship model and now, a whole raft of fresh details on the fastest Vauxhall to take on the iconic Nürburgring circuit have emerged.

We now know the super saloon will cost upwards of £33,375 (rising to £34,875 for the estate) when it arrives in showrooms from March.

Buyers will be able to opt for the grand sport or sports tourer bodystyle, which is a fancy way of saying saloon or estate, while engine options will include a two-litre turbo-petrol with 256bhp and 400Nm of torque or a 198bhp two-litre BiTurbo diesel engine.

Vauxhall says the petrol saloon Insignia GSi can dispatch the benchmark 0-62mph sprint in 6.9 seconds with a top speed of 155mph.

Both come linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with shift paddles on the steering wheel to shape a more engaging driving experience. In saloon form, CO2 emissions are rated at 197g/km in the petrol, dropping to 192g/km with the diesel.

Changing it up

Four driving modes are available through the GSi’s FlexRide system, changing up damping, steering, gear change-up points and the car’s stability and traction systems to the driver’s liking. The car’s Michelin Sport Pilot 4 tyres will provide exceptional levels of grip and prevent understeer.

The Insignia GSi will denote its more aggressive nature with various exterior design features such as chrome air intakes, front and rear GSi bumpers, side sills and a large GSi rear spoiler (saloon only), as well as Vauxhall’s IntelliLux LED matrix headlamps.

Inside, the GSi boasts full-leather front sports seats, aluminium pedals, an eight-inch colour information display with navigation plus a Bose sound system and head-up display.

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “Vauxhall is usually a very tame brand but this car will show what it can do when it wants to crank up the heat.”
