Is it much of a surprise that the Vauxhall Corsa was the fastest-selling car in the UK last month? Not really, considering how many of these wildly popular hatchbacks you are likely to see out on the roads during your average drive.
It was certainly no shock to us in the Petrol News office to hear that the Corsa is extremely popular with UK buyers, but what might surprise you is just how quickly these cars are snapped up.
According to Auto Trader, the typical Corsa took just 12 days to sell last month, at an average price of £6,138.
This compares to 16 days for the Nissan Qashqai+2 and 19 days for the Mercedes-Benz SLK convertible. The Hyundai ix35 estate and the Kia Sorrento SUV were the next-quickest sellers.
One of the reasons the Corsa continues to prove so popular is its versatility, seeing as it can be used as an easy city runaround, a learner vehicle or a first car for new drivers.
Karolina Edwards-Smajda, Auto Trader retailer and consumer products director, said: "The Vauxhall Corsa's strong showing in May is reflected not only in its ranking as the UK's fastest-selling car, but also in its robust sales performance across the regions, including taking the number one spot in the north-east.
"It's no surprise the small hatchback also currently ranks as the second most popular new car in 2016."
The list of the UK's fastest-selling cars featured five body styles, including convertibles, crossovers and estates.
Regional figures showed that the Discovery Sport, Land Rover's latest all-new model, was the second-quickest seller in the south and ninth in the south-east last month.
