Vauxhall’s new Corsa GSi warm hatch will start from £18,995 on the road when it enters UK showrooms this September.
The more performance-focused GSi label was resurrected with the Insignia last year and it looks like it’s here to stay as Vauxhall slaps the badge on more models.
Every Corsa GSi will come with 17-inch bi-colour cut alloy wheels, a GSi rear roof spoiler, sports front grille, GSi air dam/bumper and side sills.
Standard spec also includes dark tinted rear windows, carbon effect exterior mirrors and grille bar, and LED daytime running lights.
The interior boasts sports-style front seats, a leather-covered flat-bottom steering wheel and the Navi R4.0 IntelliLink infotainment system, offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
For an extra £1,900, buyers can add the GSi Plus Pack, which swaps out the 17-inch rims for 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and chucks in Recaro leather seats and bi-xenon headlights with cornering light.
Many had hoped the Corsa GSi would be equipped with something more aggressive than a 148bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine, mated to a short-ratio six-speed gearbox.
In a straight line, it hits 62mph in just under nine seconds, which isn’t rubbish but isn’t anything to write home about.
Built on the same chassis as the Corsa VXR, the GSi exploits 220Nm of torque between 2,750 to 4,500rpm to lift it from 50mph to 70mph in just 9.9 seconds.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “The GSi treatment adds a bit of spice to Vauxhall’s supermini. We look forward to seeing which model Vauxhall will focus on next.”
