These limited-run McLaren 570GTs are making us green with envy

Written by: Neil

We’re big fans of the McLaren 570GT in the Petrol News office. Here is a hot slice of pure British sporting brilliance. Its aggressive styling is as breathtaking as its performance and the whole thing flies the flag high for what UK-based sports car makers can do.

So we got all patriotic again this week when the Surrey-based brand announced that a very limited number of 570GT models will be produced brandishing an exclusive previously unavailable colour.

Not just any colour though, it’s the same historic ‘XP Green’ shade as the famous F1 XP GT ‘Longtail’ homologation model built in 1997.

Only six will be available, and sadly, they’ve all be snapped up by buyers in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands for £188,567 each.

So what’s so special about them? Well, the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine of the 570GT remains unchanged. Instead, what makes these bespoke McLarens special, aside from the XP Green exterior, is the Saddle Tan leather interior, which features green seat inserts and green contrast stitching.

The car’s exterior also features Saddle Tan aero pin-striping edging on the front aero blades, side skirts and rear diffuser. A stripe of the same colour runs along the doors towards the rear of the car, topped off with a union flag emblem, finished in silver-grey.

Finally, MSO black exterior components replace the front splitter, door inserts, side air intakes, side skirts and rear bumper, diffuser and spoiler.

Up to £21,000 of extras have been bolted into the car too, such as a GT Upgrade Pack, which includes vehicle lift, rear view camera, volumetric alarm upgrade, Bowers & Wilkins audio system and car cover, and five-spoke lightweight forged wheels in stealth finish.

Although all six XP Green 570GTs have been accounted for, McLaren will offer more limited-volume collections in the not-too-distant future.

A spokesperson for McLaren suggested the demand is there, saying: “Any McLaren is a very special vehicle, but we are also seeing an increasing number of buyers expressing a desire to personalise their cars with additional features and options as well as colour and trim choices outside of the core specification offered.”

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, added: “The 570GT is a gorgeous machine but this XP Green shade has made it all the more loveable.”
