Rosberg wins title in dramatic F1 finale

Written by: Neil

Nico Rosberg claimed his first Formula 1 Drivers' Championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday in what was a fantastic race from start to finish.

The whole team in the Petrol News office were enthralled by the action being played out in front of them, with reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton controlling the pace from the front to back up his title rival into the clutches of Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel.

Rosberg required only a podium finish to secure the points needed to win this year's championship, and this was a fact not lost on Hamilton who attempted to put his teammate under the greatest amount of pressure.

Rosberg rose to the occasion though and defended admirably throughout to finish second and take the title.

It was a tactic that some have claimed was 'unsporting' by Hamilton, but with the constructors' championship already wrapped up for Mercedes, the tight finish to the year was just what the doctor ordered for all true fans of F1 – a real nail-biter right to the chequered flag!

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, adds: "Another fantastic season has come to an end and Nico Rosberg has emerged victorious after what was one of the closest title rivalries of recent years.

"Let's hope 2017 can be another tight affair; the thrill of the final race had us all on the edge of our seats!"
