When it comes to mind-blowing outlandish concept cars, not many people would look to Renault, but apparently, they should; the French car maker has just claimed the gong for Concept Car of the Year at the Geneva Car Design Awards.
The awards are based exclusively on the votes of a 20-strong judging panel featuring some of the world’s top car designers, so these guys know their stuff.
One of the organisers said the contest was “a really close-run race this year” but the Trezor “clearly appealed to our panel of normally hard-to-please professional car designers”.
The judges praised the concept’s dramatic exterior proportions, its interior flair and magnificent use of materials and the strong design connection between exterior and interior.
This futuristic sports car looks like something straight out of science fiction and it boasts the technology to back up its striking design.
Driving the low-slung, long-nosed, rear-wheel drive, two-seater GT is an all-electric powertrain, producing up to 345bhp and 380Nm of torque. This is enough to get it from a standstill to 62mph in under four seconds.
Looks are what count here though, and it’s tough not to be struck by the car’s red glazing, innovative carbon bodywork and contrasting surface finishes.
On the bonnet, the car’s honeycomb-form air intake echoes the structure of the rear bodywork. Meanwhile, hexagonal shapes provide a variable-geometry intake, the movement of which gives the impression that the Trezor is actually breathing.
At the rear, there’s modern fibre-optic lighting integrating a red laser, providing bright, distinctive lighting. Under braking, the torsion and stacking of the optical fibres creates an interesting visual effect and increases the intensity of the light.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, adds: “The award is much deserved. Just thinking back over the last 12 months, it really is one of the concept cars that truly stands out.”
The Trezor was also named ‘Most Beautiful Concept Car of 2016’ during the 32nd Festival Automobile International at the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris in February.
