The eyes of the world are on Russia right now as it hosts arguably the biggest sporting event on the planet.
While the FIFA World Cup will come to an end on July 15th, the world will focus on Russia once again at the end of August when it hosts the Moscow Motor Show.
Admittedly, this usually isn’t a major date in the automotive calendar, but Renault has given us a reason to care after announcing it will use the event to unveil a new crossover SUV.
Renault has chosen Russia for the model’s reveal, because this is where it will be built and launched.
As it stands, the Renault range already features a fair few SUVs, with the Kadjar and Captur doing well for the French brand, so it’ll be interesting to see where this new C-segment model fits in.
Presumably, its SUVs can’t go any smaller, so this will be a bulkier offroader to rival the likes of Peugeot’s 5008 and VW’s Touareg.
A statement from Renault insists that its latest SUV “will be a real breakthrough for the Russian SUV market”.
“The launch of this global model will open a new chapter in the history of Renault Russia,” it adds.
Will the model be one for petrolheads to keep an eye out for? Unlikely, as a performance version probably wouldn’t find a market in the UK, especially one developed specifically for the Russians. That said, stranger things have happened.
Come back on August 29th when hopefully we’ll have more details on Renault’s new C-segment crossover SUV.
