Quartet of Brits on the grid for new MotoGP season

Written by: Neil

With spring having barely sprung in Britain, it's still some way to go until the (hopefully) hot days of summer, but fans eagerly waiting for the Octo British MotoGP over the August Bank Holiday still have lots to whet their appetite as the season gets underway in Qatar. There will be four Brits on the track at the Losail International Circuit on Sunday (March 26th).

Cal Crutchlow will be the man most likely to triumph in the Gulf, as the 31-year-old Midlander looks to follow up his success in becoming the first Briton to win a Premier Class Race in 35 years last season, triumphing not once, but twice on his LCR Honda.

Scott Redding will also be attracting plenty of attention as one of the rising stars of the sport. The 22-year-old is still the youngest winner of a Grand Prix and having come seventh at Losail last year, the youngster from Gloucestershire will have high hopes. Hurtling round the circuit faster than someone in his home county chasing a cheese downhill, he had an excellent testing session in Qatar last week.

Britain's contingent also includes Bradley Smith, who will lead the Red Bull KTM team in its debut MotoGP season, seeking to emulate the brand's success in Formula 1. He will be looking to bounce back strongly after suffering a serious knee injury in August last year.

Finally, Sam Lowes will be making his MotoGP debut as part of the Gresini Aprilia team after winning two grand prix in the Moto2 class. If the name sounds familiar, it's because his face looks even more so; he is the twin brother of World Superbikes rider Alex.

They will face a tough challenge against the usual suspects. World champion Marc Marquez crashed five times in testing at Qatar, so he may just be happy to get round as he starts his title defence. Nine-times World Champion Valentino Rossi will be joined by the brilliant youngster Maverick Vinales, who with that name will need to be in 'top gear' and of course Jorge Lorenzo.

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, adds: "We at Petrol News are huge fans of the MotoGP and can't wait for the new season to get underway. Fingers crossed for some success for our British riders!"
