The McLaren 720S is an extraordinary car. Anything with a McLaren badge on it is generally pretty spectacular by default, but this model has been named the most beautiful supercar of the year and is officially one of the quickest production cars you can buy right now with a 0-62mph dash of 2.5 seconds.
So you can understand why virtually everyone in the Petrol News office perked up when we heard about a new Track Pack for the 720S.
The name alone doesn’t give much away, but the Track Pack makes the supercar even lighter and more circuit-focused for track enthusiasts.
It snips 24kg from the car’s total weight by adding a few lightweight elements such as a visual carbon fibre active rear spoiler and carbon fibre racing seats with MSO-defined six-point harnesses.
Exterior features for the Track Pack are based on 720S Performance specification, which means it throws in hood air intakes, rear fender air intakes and door mirror casings in carbon fibre and engine bay ambient lighting.
But on top of that, there are super-lightweight ten-spoke forged alloy wheels and a sports exhaust.
McLaren expects the Track Pack will be so tempting that one in ten 570S buyers will opt to include it and who could blame them?
It doesn’t come cheap though. Choosing to add the Track Pack plonks on an extra £28,360 to the price of a McLaren 720S. As such, the 720S Coupe in Performance specification with Track Pack rings in at £224,700.
Jess Wort, marketing manager at Petrol News, comments: “The 720S has proven itself as one of the giants of the supercar world and this Track Pack only builds on its brilliance.”
