Attention A-Class fans: cancel any plans you have for this Friday because Mercedes-Benz is unveiling its new generation premium hatchback online.
VIPs and members of the press will witness the reveal of the all-new Mercedes A-Class during a special invite-only event in Amsterdam at 19.00 CET. But the likes of you and I won’t miss out, with the whole thing being live streamed online at media.mercedes-benz.com/A-Class2018.
Details on the four-gen model are scant ahead of the grand unveiling, but you can count on the new A-Class to bear a more striking exterior, encasing a classier interior.
It’ll probably be slightly larger but lighter in weight than the outgoing A-Class, which should mean more attractive fuel economy and, most importantly, performance.
Certain aspects of the new A-Class are expected to be influenced by the Concept A Sedan, showcased in Shanghai in April 2017. This means it could be feature an engine range comprising four-cylinder petrol and diesel units, as well as a 400bhp-plus turbocharged two-litre petrol unit in a range-topping A45 4Matic variant.
In a statement confirming the reveal date, Mercedes gave some little hints, confirming that new hatchback would retain “its youthful and dynamic character” while being “more grown up and comfortable than ever”.
“It completely redefines modern luxury in the compact class, and revolutionises interior design,” the statement adds.
There will also be a new multimedia system with self-learning artificial intelligence and a navigation display with augmented reality technology.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “The A-Class has been a massive seller for Mercedes – more than half a million have been sold in Europe alone – so expect something spectacular when the new A-Class emerges on Friday.”
