Summer is almost over, so what better time to reveal a new convertible?!
Yeah, we’re not entirely sure what BMW was thinking there but these are the first official pictures of the long-awaited Z4, set to launch here in spring 2019.
The car in that image at the top is the Z4 M40i First Edition, which is intended to serve as an appetiser for the forthcoming on-road debut of the new roadster.
It is powered by a powerful 335bhp straight six-cylinder engine that can get the drop-top to 62mph from rest in 4.6 seconds.
Elsewhere beneath the surface is sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, M Sport braking system and an electronically controlled M Sport differential in the rear axle transmission.
We’ll find out more about other engines on September 19th, ahead of a wider premiere on October 4th at the Mondial de l’Automobile (aka the Paris Motor Show).
BMW says the new Z4 inspires with its blend of agility, precision, dynamic handling and particularly sophisticated design and equipment features.
The brand adds that the car maximises driver engagement with a central sitting position, low centre of gravity, perfectly balanced 50:50 axle load distribution, wide tracks and a compact wheelbase.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “Leaked shots of the third-gen Z4 were posted on Instagram last week so BMW may feel much of the drop-off’s big reveal has been spoiled but we think it looks awesome.”
