New Aston Martin Vantage coming Q2 2018

Written by: Neil

Much swooning reverberated around the Petrol News office this week with the reveal of the all-new Aston Martin Vantage, due in the second quarter of 2018.

A new Aston is usually enough cause for celebration but the Vantage nameplate has been worn by some undisputable icons of the past seven decades, and the outgoing model was the single most successful car in Aston Martin’s 100-plus year history.

So how does this new model push things forward? Well, going bigger and harder seems the obvious thing to do and that’s exactly what the new Vantage does.

It is lighter and more powerful than before, which means it is quicker than ever before too.

Under the bonnet is a new twin-turbo four-litre V8 engine – linked to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox – that uses its 503bhp and 687Nm of torque to rally up to 62mph in 3.6 seconds. It’ll keep picking up speed too until it hits 195mph.

It weighs 1,530kg, which is roughly one-and-a-half tonnes and almost the same as its key rival the Porsche 911.

Styling has been heavily influenced by the ultra limited edition DB10 – a car developed especially for 007 to appear in 2015’s Spectre. As only ten of those were ever produced, it’s a relief that a lot of its design has resurfaced in a full-production Aston; the car’s clamshell bonnet, slim LED headlamps and gaping grille are all clear similarities with the DB10.

Aston has poured plenty of time into making this slick design super-aerodynamic too, with a fully integrated front splitter directing airflow beneath the car, where a system of fences channel cooling air to where it is needed, and also feeding the rear diffuser with a clean airflow.

All this doesn’t come cheap; in fact prices start from £120,900 – a whole £25,000 more than its key rival Porsche 911 GTS, and running the thing won’t be kind on your bank balance either, with a combined fuel consumption of 26.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 245g/km.

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “This new Vantage is everything you want from a Aston and if it’s good enough for Bond, then it’ll do for us.”
