Mercedes-AMG works driver bags amazing wedding car

Written by: Neil

Anyone who is engaged to be married may have a decent idea of what they want to roll up to their wedding venue in. Be it a Rolls-Royce, a Bentley, or maybe something ridiculous like a Lamborghini, the right car can help any newly-weds make an entrance to remember.

So much of the Petrol News office turned green with envy this week when we saw what long-time Mercedes-AMG works driver Maro Engel was whisked to his wedding in: a Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM.

The racer uses a four-litre V8, pumping out 453bhp, yet it weighs not much more than a ton (1,120kg), resulting in an incredible power to weight ratio of 404. That’s more than a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 (385) and not far from that of a Ferrari F50 (424).

It’d probably get you where you need to be quicker than you can say ‘I do’.

Maro Engel said his wedding to his now-wife Steffi was beautiful and blessed with bright blue skies, but what did he think of the car?

“It was an absolutely amazing, incredible experience,” he revealed, stating the obvious.

“Driving off from the church in the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM together with my wife, along the narrow road through the small fishing village and out onto the coast road was a crazy feeling. We each had a big wide grin on our face.”

There was the slight drawback, however, that conversation was rendered impossible due to volume of angry growls generated by the ferocious V8 engine.

“We knew that would be the case and didn’t mind,” added Engel. “It was a really unique experience, like no-one else has probably ever had. An absolute knock-out.”

Maro admitted he had to discuss the idea with Steffi first, but revealed she was into it from the off.

“She thought the idea was tremendous,” he added. “We lined the seats of the car with large, white tablecloths, and she managed to get in okay with a little bit of help from me.”

It kind of makes sense for the two to involve the DTM at their wedding; the pair actually met through and at the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters – translation: German Touring Car Masters).

Mercedes-Benz has won the DTM seven times since 2000 – a record shared with Audi – with the brand’s most recent triumph coming in 2015 with Pascal Wehrlein at the wheel.

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “When it comes to wedding cars, this has to be one of the best and most suitable choices we’ve ever seen. Congratulations to the new Mr and Mrs Engel!”
