The boffins at McLaren have outdone themselves again! This time, it’s the new Hyper-GT that has everyone here in the Petrol News office raving.
Designed by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) – the manufacturer’s bespoke customer commissions department – the new Hyper-GT will be as bombastic and brilliant as any McLaren to have gone before it.
With such a strong legacy of outstanding sports cars to follow, it’s going to be no mean feat to put the rest in its shadow – but that’s exactly what the MSO design team are hoping to achieve.
To date, all we know is that the Hyper-GT will have a limited production of just 106 units and will feature a hybrid powertrain similar to that used by McLaren’s Formula 1 cars. It promises a “shrink-wrapped carbon fibre body of great elegance” and the first customer release has been predicted for early 2019.
Full details of the model have not yet been released, but from what little we do know, everyone here in the Petrol News office can’t wait for MSO and the Hyper-GT to show us what they’re made of!
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, adds: “We all thought the McLaren F1 would forever be the defining model of McLaren’s brilliance, but the F1 should get ready to stand aside; there’s a new kid in town, and the Hyper-GT could be just the inspirational design the marque needs.”
