McLaren is UK’s fastest growing luxury car brand

McLaren make very fast, very expensive super cars. Not many people can justify owning a McLaren, let alone scrape the money to buy one.

And yet, McLaren Automotive has emerged as the fastest growing luxury car brand in the UK right now.

The Woking-based car maker has enjoyed record sales in the first half of 2018, reporting a 47.73 per cent year-on-year growth.

Granted, that’s only 390 vehicles, but still, that’s a big leap on what it achieved in the opening six months of 2017. Sales are almost equally split between the brand’s Sports and Super Series lines.

McLaren recently celebrated production of its 15,000th car and is now regularly producing 20 cars every day to meet demand in the UK and around the world – which, most excitingly, includes the Senna, McLaren’s most extreme model yet.

The Senna’s four-litre twin-turbocharged V8 can produce up to 789bhp and 800Nm of torque, making it the most powerful internal combustion engine to ever feature in a McLaren road car.

With a power-to-weight ratio of 658bhp-per-tonne, many are touting a sub-three-second 0-62mph sprint time. Only 500 Sennas will ever be produced and they’re all been spoken for, despite the £750,000 asking price.

As the brand’s core model range grew with the addition of the 720S and its Spider convertible counterpart [pictured], McLaren also increased its number of UK retailers to eight with dealerships in Hatfield and Leeds opening their doors. A new location for the south coast of England is currently under consideration too.
