It's official, the McLaren F1 is the greatest supercar to have been released, ever!
The impressive title was bestowed at this year's Classic & Sports Car Show and here in the Petrol News office, we can't think of a more fitting recipient of this stunning accolade.
Released in 1992 to a fanfare of acclaim, the model was the brainchild of iconic car designer Gordon Murray and from the off, it was a true marvel for petrolheads around the world.
In March 1998 it went on to break the world land speed record for a production car, achieving a blistering 240.1 mph – a record not beaten until 2005 and the launch of the Bugatti Veyron.
The model also served to change the image of supercars around the world, with its usability and daily functionality meaning the F1 was a car for all occasions, not simply blasting around a racetrack.
As such, it was truly groundbreaking and the award of the Greatest Supercar Ever is a fitting one that no-one here in the Petrol News office would argue with.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, adds: "The McLaren F1 made waves in the 90s and continues to do so to this day.
"It's one hell of a car and the monocoque design and massive horsepower were truly revolutionary innovations when it was released – not to mention it simply looks amazing!"
