Maserati’s Levante SUV is one of the most luxurious and devastatingly quick SUVs money can buy right now – and a new range-topping version has just been unveiled.
Seen for the first time at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Levante GTS Twin Turbo V8 takes the V90 architecture of the 3.8-litre unit found in the flagship Quattroporte GTS and retunes it to produce a power output of 542bhp, available at 6,250rpm, and a peak torque of 730Nm between 2,500 and 5,000rpm.
All this technical blabber might mean nothing to some of you, but something we can all appreciate is the over-the-top offroader’s ability to polish off a 0-62mph sprint in 4.2 seconds.
If that wasn’t enough, it will keep picking up speed until it hits 181mph.
The Bentayga rival’s chassis has been tuned to handle the immense power of the GTS engine, providing a driving experience that Maserati says is true to the “Gran Turismo” pedigree of this new V8 Maserati of SUVs.
There are the inevitable styling tweaks to denote this fiercer performance, such as a lower front fascia and a sporty yet sophisticated rear bumper.
Inside, the GTS cabin comes as standard with full premium leather or optional full-grain Pieno Fiore natural leather, as well as sport pedals and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon Audio system.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, commented: “This GTS version takes the luxury and pace of the standard Levante and just cranks everything up. Irresistible!”
