The Range Rover family has already gained a new member in the past year – the brilliant Velar which looks like a stretched out Evoque – but another new model is about to join the Range Rover line – at least temporarily.
Billed as the world’s first full-size luxury SUV coupé, the Range Rover SV Coupé will be revealed online at LandRover.com on March 6th, ahead of its physical unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show the same day.
Don’t get too fond of it though because it won’t be an permanent addition to the range with production capped at just 999 examples, with each hand-assembled by Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) Special Vehicle Operations in Warwickshire.
The two-door SV Coupé is intended to be a celebration of the Range Rover bloodline, acting a nod to the original Range Rover, which launched as a two-door in 1970.
Only one shot of the car has been released so far – a top-down view of the four-seat interior – but JLR has promised the Range Rover SV Coupé will boast a ‘seductive body design and a supremely refined interior’.
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s chief design officer, added: “The Range Rover SV Coupé is a highly compelling design with peerless refinement and uncompromised sophistication from its breathtaking exterior proportions to its sumptuous, beautifully appointed, interior.
“This is a vehicle that will resonate on an emotional level.”
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, commented: “Land Rover effectively created the luxury SUV with Range Rover almost 50 years ago and JLR never fails to celebrate its heritage with class and panache.”
