Mercedes-Benz has let its AMG performance division loose on the E-Class and you’ll be able to drive the results this summer.
Available in both saloon and estate bodystyles, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 4Matic+ uses AMG’s new three-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 429bhp and 520 Nm, to race from zero to 62mph in 4.5 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
There’s also an additional 22bhp and 250 Nm, thanks to the car’s EQ Boost technology.
Fitted between the engine and transmission, the EQ Boost starter-alternator enhances driving performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
As such, it can deliver up to 32.5 mpg on the combined cycle and emit 200 g/km, which isn’t too shabby for a car this rampant.
All E 53s come linked to AMG’s Speedshift TCT 9G transmission as standard, enabling extremely short shift times, fast response to shift paddle commands, a double-declutching function and multiple downshifts.
Riding on 19-inch alloy wheels, this excitable E-Class comes packed with loads of gadgets too, such as a 12.3-inch infotainment display, 12.3-inch cockpit display, multibeam LED intelligent light system, wireless phone charging, 360-degree camera and electrically adjustable front seats and steering column.
The interior boasts nappa leather upholstery in black with red contrast stitching, while the back is finished off by a reliably raucous AMG performance exhaust.
You can order an E 53 right now, with prices starting from £61,835 for the saloon, rising to £63,835 for the estate.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “With the E 53 4Matic+, Mercedes-AMG has contributed yet another worthy ‘all the car you need’ candidate.”
