Ingrassia and Ogier claim fourth WRC title

Written by: Neil

Another great year of racing in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) came to a head at the weekend, with the team of Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia claiming their fourth world title in a row!

After 11 rallies and countless thrills and spills along the way, the pair's Volkswagen Polo R WRC took the partners to victory in Catalonia and an unassailable lead in the championship standings on Sunday.

It is a stunning achievement that the teammates have held such sway over what is an undoubtedly talented field in the last four seasons, with Ogier and Ingrassia yet again wrapping up the championship with an emphatic win and races to spare.

Rally Spain was by no means a walk in the park though, with Ogier and Ingrassia pushed all the way by their closest rivals Andreas Mikkelsen and Anders Jaeger.

However, some blistering times and the unfortunate retirement of Mikkelsen and Jaeger meant the Volkswagen pair again proved victorious at a circuit where they have been successful in the past.

All the team here in the Petrol News office have been impressed by the calibre of racing by Ogier and Ingrassia all season and we're looking forward to seeing if the pair can make it five out five when the action resumes in 2017!

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, added: "Four world titles in a row is an unbelievable achievement. It's difficult to see who can stand in their way next year and I fully expect to see them make it five."
