Hyundai releases first shots of new Santa Fe

Written by: Neil

We were getting a tad concerned in the Petrol News office – it had been at least a day since a new SUV had been revealed and we were getting worried that something was wrong with the automotive industry.

So there was a collective sigh of relief when Hyundai banished such concerns by publishing the first images of its fourth-generation Santa Fe.

The forthcoming rival to the Nissan X-Trail and Toyota RAV4 will be shown off in full at some point in February ahead of its appearance at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Hyundai is promising ‘a powerful, premium-designed SUV with class-leading roominess’.

Stretching for 4,770mm with a width of 1,890mm, the new Santa Fe will remain the largest passenger car in the Hyundai range.

As such, a spacious and comfortable interior should be a given, but the styling of the exterior has been an substantial area of focus too. Its modern and elegant yet athletic look is obtained by refined lines, twin headlights and the cascading grille – a key feature of Hyundai’s SUVs.

Inside, the South Korean car maker adds that the Santa Fe’s design combines premium quality with a horizontal and roomy layout and enhanced visibility.

Safety has also been a high priority and as a result, the SUV has been gifted some best-in-class safety features, such as rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist.

This means that when reversing out of areas with low visibility, the system warns the driver if vehicles approach from the side and applies the brakes automatically.

Another feature is the safety exit assist, which prevents accidents when vehicles approach from behind by temporarily locking the doors, so that passengers can exit the car safely – like the friendly, non-murdery cousin of Stephen King’s Christine.

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “It looks like Hyundai has some grand ideas of the next Santa Fe and we can’t wait to see it out on the road.”
