We’re getting pretty hyped for the new Civic Type R in the Petrol News office. We were big fans of the hot hatch that emerged less than two years ago, based on the standard mk9 Civic, and cranking up the tenth-generation model has already shot it into the record books, becoming the quickest front-wheel-drive car to lap the Nürburgring.
Pretty much every detail regarding the forthcoming Type R has been public knowledge for some time, except one very important figure: price.
Honda has now revealed that the Golf R rival will start from £30,995, or £299 a month on a monthly personal contract purchase (PCP) agreement for three years.
For an extra £2,000 lumped on to the on-the-road price, buyers can opt for the GT version, which adds blind spot information, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, Honda’s Connect system with Garmin sat-nav, wireless charging, high power audio and LED front fog lights.
The new Civic Type R has 15bhp more than its predecessor – now 315bhp – while the six-speed manual transmission’s lower gear ratios improve acceleration, resulting in a more potent and engaging driving experience.
Phil Webb, head of cars at Honda UK, commented: “As with the previous generation, we are fully expecting a huge demand for the Civic Type R.
“The order bank is already open and we are experiencing strong interest off the back of the launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and this is before our customers have even taken a test drive.”
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, adds: “The new Type R seems to be a tasty improvement on the last model and with an accessible price, we reckon the Type R production line will be very busy for some time.”
