Hamilton wins in style in Monaco

Written by: Neil

Lewis Hamilton drove an impressive race to edge out Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo to secure only his second ever victory in the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday (May 29th).

Here in the Petrol News office, we were on the edge of our seats come the final laps of what was a thrilling race, as Hamilton looked to defend his lead from a resurgent Ricciardo who had been pushed back in the order by a bungled pit stop.

Overall, it was a great race for all lovers of motorsport, with thrills and spills to be seen all the way from the first lap to the chequered flag.

Ricciardo's teammate Max Verstappen was on a high entering the race on Sunday – fresh from an unlikely win in Spain earlier this month. However, a repeat performance was not meant to be, as Verstappen crashed spectacularly into the barriers on this tight and winding street circuit after working his way from the back of the field up to ninth.

Meanwhile, the inter-team rivalry of Hamilton and Nico Rosberg at Mercedes continued to bubble nicely, as the victory for Hamilton and a seventh-place finish for Rosberg means the driver's championship has been thrown wide open once more.

With the Formula 1 season now set to head to Canada on the first leg of its North American tour on June 10th, we can't wait to see how Verstappen and Rosberg will recover from the heartache of Monaco. It's sure to be exciting!
