Hamilton wins but Rosberg applies the pressure

Written by: Neil

The pressure is building at the top of the drivers' standings in what has been a thrilling race all year for the 2016 Formula 1 crown.

Austin, Texas was the venue for the latest wheel-to-wheel action between the two Mercedes title rivals on Sunday, with Lewis Hamilton coming out on top with an imperious display of skill to take the win and keep alive his hopes of F1 glory in 2016.

Nico Rosberg also played his part in what was a dramatic race though, recovering from an early setback to overtake the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo in the dying laps to claim second place and keep his own season on course for a first Formula 1 world championship crown.

It was the 50th career victory for Hamilton that takes him just one shy of the legendary Alain Prost (51), but still far adrift of all-time race-winning leader Michael Schumacher (91).

It's an impressive milestone, but Hamilton will be hoping to overtake Prost in the closing races of the year, as doing so will mean he applies the maximum amount of pressure to his Mercedes teammate.

Now, with just three races to go in what has been an almighty year, it remains neck and neck in the drivers' race for glory and everyone here in the Petrol News office is on tenterhooks to find out just who will win in this titanic battle!

Petrol News brand manager Stephen Hasley adds: "The race for the title is really going down to the wire. We can't wait for the next instalment of Formula 1 action when the teams head to Mexico this coming weekend."
