Are you as excited as we are? The season-opening Australian Grand Prix is set to take place next weekend and it promises to be the start of another hectic nine months of passion in the pit lane and screaming tyres on track in this year’s Formula 1 calendar.
Much has been made of Mercedes’ dominance of the sport in recent seasons, but could 2016 be the time when the chasing pack finally catch up? Well, probably not, but Ferrari are seemingly much closer to the frontrunners than they have ever been in the hybrid era.
Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen could arguably be giving Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg a real run for their money in races this year; but the smart money does still lie on Mercedes taking the chequered flag in the season’s opening encounter.
That said, many of the sport’s top teams have made positive strides during the off-season and the likes of McLaren, Williams, Red Bull and Force India could all be up there as well.
It’s also going to be great to see the new boys in action for the first time, with both new entrants Haas and the returning Renault possibly out to cause an upset.
Whatever the case, we’re just happy that Formula 1 will be back in full force this month, with the roar of engines (apparently, they’ll be 20 per cent louder this year), the cringe of close overtaking and the battle for supremacy behind the wheel a perfect way to relax on a Sunday afternoon.
The Australian Grand Prix will be taking place on March 20th – and it’s going to be great!
