Ford Focus RS bids farewell with more powerful Heritage Edition

Written by: Neil

Hot hatch fans around the world should get their hankies ready at the start of April after Ford announced that it will end production of its Focus RS on the sixth.

Before then though, the rampant 345bhp hot hatch will get one last hurrah with the limited production Heritage Edition.

The final 50 Focus RS models to leave the Saarlouis plant in Germany will be Heritage Editions and all of them will be coming to the UK market – so there’s at least some silver lining for British hot hatch lovers.

You should be able to identify the Heritage Editions easily by their unique ‘Tief Orange’ body colour.

Heritage Editions also set themselves apart from the standard Focus RS with black-forged alloy wheels, grey-finish brake callipers, contrasting black door mirrors and rear spoiler, and partial-leather Recaro seats with carbon fibre trim. Under the surface, there’s a dealer-fitted FPM375 Mountune power upgrade, which ramps power output by 24bhp to 369bhp.

You get the usual Focus RS bits too, like a front mechanical Quaife limited-slip differential (LSD), sunroof, rear parking sensors, power-fold door mirrors, cruise control with speed limiter and heated steering wheel.

All this for just short of £40k? Count us in.

Andy Barratt, managing director for Ford of Britain, hailed the outgoing Focus RS as “the best RS we’ve ever produced”.

He said: “The RS brand is hugely important to Ford and is recognised across the globe, however, it has a special place in the hearts of UK Ford fans.”

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, added: “It’ll be sad to bid farewell to such a brilliant hot hatch, but the fact Brits will get an exclusive version ahead of its departure is a nice touch from Ford.”
