Ford Fiesta Active – all you need to know

Written by: Neil

The Ford Fiesta might be little to look at but in terms of sales, it’s an absolute behemoth.

For almost a decade, the ubiquitous supermini has outsold every other model every year and the recent introduction of an all-new generation suggests that won’t change any time soon.

Ten years ago, people were all about superminis but these days, it’s SUVs. So how does Ford work around this? SUV-ise the Fiesta, of course! That’s essentially what the forthcoming Fiesta Active is.

Priced from £17,790, the crossover uses the standard Fiesta as a starting block before hiking up the suspension and adding a tougher look with plastic off-road-esque cladding.

Engine-wise, buyers will be able to choose from the award-winning single-litre EcoBoost petrol in four power outputs or a 84bhp 1.5-litre TDCi diesel unit.

Equipment is spread over three variants – Active 1, Active B&O Play and Active X – and every Fiesta Active comes with roof rails, front fog lights, 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and a three-tier driving mode system (Eco, Slippery and Normal).

Priced from £19,190, B&O Play models features a distinctive black roof with black roof rails and matching electrically operated and heated door mirrors, as well as a B&O Play premium audio system, packing 360-degree sound and linked to ten speakers.

These mid-trim variants also come with cruise control, rain sensing wipers, auto-dimming rear view mirror, a centre console with armrest and illuminated cup holders plus a 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster screen with traffic sign recognition.

Finally, range-topping Active X models (£20,290) boast partial leather upholstery with heated front seats, power-foldable door mirrors with puddle lights, Ford SYNC 3 Navigation system with DAB radio and eight-inch touchscreen, the KeyFree system with keyless entry and start, and a rear-view camera with rear parking sensors.

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “The Fiesta Active is an intriguing spin on the truly superb Fiesta. It’ll be interesting to see how the changes beneath the surface affect its ride and handling. What we really want to know is when we can expect a hot ST or RS version!”
