First McLaren Senna handed over to customer; immediately drives to south of France

Written by: Neil

Expectations are understandably high for the McLaren Senna – a car billed as the ‘most extreme’ model from the brand ever – but it looks like the wait is finally over after the first model built for a customer was handed over to its owner.

Bearing the chassis number 001, the Senna was this week officially presented to its owner – London-based businessman David Kyte – who immediately embarked on a 869-mile road trip to the south of France, accompanied by three other McLaren Sennas, a McLaren 720S and a McLaren 600LT, driven by racing driver Bruno Senna (nephew of Ayrton) and McLaren execs.

Finished in MSO anniversary white with striking livery painted in MSO aurora blue and the Senna brand displayed on the wing endplate, the bespoke McLaren Senna also features a roof ‘snorkel’, T-Bar and fuel filler cover in MSO satin visual carbon fibre, brake calipers painted in MSO bespoke burton blue with MSO bespoke coloured centre lock wheel nuts in volcano red.

The paintwork alone took more than 600 hours to complete, with two paint specialists devoting two weeks to ‘masking-up’ the car before the livery was applied.

McLaren Automotive chief executive Mike Flewitt said that handing over the key to the first Senna sold was an honour and a milestone for the company.

“David Kyte is a longstanding McLaren enthusiast with a true passion for our brand and a number of McLarens to prove it,” he commented.

“We have had many conversations about the car he has now taken delivery of and while I believe that the McLaren Senna is already incredible in every respect, the additional work that David has commissioned from McLaren Special Operations has taken ‘Senna 001’ to another level.”

Powered by a 789bhp four-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine – the most powerful McLaren road car internal combustion unit ever – the Senna can race to 62mph in 2.8 seconds, completing a 0-124mph sprint in 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 211mph.

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “Those figures are just incredible and the Senna is more than worthy of bearing such a prestigious name.”
