Fangio still has what it takes to win races!

Written by: Neil

Here in the Petrol News office we know our motor racing history, so when we see that one of the most iconic names of all time in Formula 1 continues to make the headlines then it pleases us greatly.

Five-times world champion Juan Manuel Fangio Deramo – known to his fans as Fangio – may have passed away in the mid 1990s, but his memory lives on in the JD Classics legendary ex-Fangio Jaguar C-Type – and the car didn't place a wheel out of line to win the acclaimed Monaco Historique on Saturday (May 14th).

Securing victory at the weekend, we're happy to see that the Fangio name is still synonymous with racing excellence, as driver Chris Ward was a cut above the rest at the wheel of the C-Type – qualifying two seconds faster than his closest rival to claim pole position and then driving a faultless race to claim the chequered flag as well.

With such history and drama attached to both the car and the memory of Fangio himself, the record of the ex-Fangio Jaguar C-Type at this particular event is second to none, winning 24 times in the 27 years that this race has been held.

It brings us great pleasure to reminisce about the best that the world of motorsport has had to offer over the years and Fangio truly was one of the greats!
