End of the road for the McLaren P1

Written by: Neil

Luxury sportscar manufacturer McLaren has announced the final production run of its magnificent McLaren P1 has come to an end.

The 375th McLaren P1 rolled off the production line this month to draw a curtain on the ambitious P1 project, which commenced in summer 2013.

Less than two years later and the P1 has been hailed as a revolution in car design, combining world-class levels of construction with blistering performance and the latest technologies to deliver a sustainable hypercar.

Mike Flewitt, chief executive officer at McLaren Automotive, commented: “The McLaren P1 has achieved more than we ever expected of it since it was first previewed little over three years ago, both as a new generation of supercar, and in enhancing the McLaren brand globally.

“As the direct ancestor to the fabled McLaren F1 – and the first in a new breed of hybrid-powered supercars – it had big shoes to fill, and it has more than succeeded.”

Mr Flewitt added that the model has established itself as a true contender for the crown of the best car ever built and has become the “halo product for the McLaren Automotive brand” in the process.

Production of the first P1 in September 2013 coincided with 50th anniversary celebrations for the McLaren marque and marked the company’s ambition to deliver the best drivers’ car both on track and on the road.
