Del Boy’s Reliant Regal goes up for auction

Written by: Neil

BBC’s ‘Only Fools and Horses’ has attracted one of the most passionate fanbases in TV comedy and soon, one lucky fan will make their dreams come true when the show’s iconic yellow Reliant Regal three-wheeler is auctioned off.

The 1968 Reliant Regal is one of the most loved classic cars of the small screen, instantly recognised for carting Del Boy and Rodney about on their many riotous – and often disastrous – adventures.

Bearing the reg plate ‘BWC 94F’, the car appeared in the 2002 Christmas Special, ‘If They Could See Us Now’, and also featured in the BBC DVD ‘The Story of Only Fools and Horses’.

The van appears exactly as it did in the show, complete with tiger print plush interior and ‘Trotters Independent Trading Co’ decals.

It also comes with some show-related accessories such as a ‘Tax in Post’ window notice, nodding tiger, roof rack with suitcase, set of furry dice, personalised rubber foot mats and a set of blow-up plastic dolls.

The van, which has 71,778 miles on the clock, is supplied with its original owners handbook, an MOT until June 9th 2018 and letters in the history file from the BBC which confirm its authenticity.

It has been well-kept over the years too. Aside from a reconditioned engine, a full synchromesh gearbox, and remote control key start, it also has a DVD player, cassette radio, and even a smoke machine which emits smoke from the exhaust.

There has been no word on how much the van could go for but it will be offered with no reserve during a two-day classic car sale at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show at the Birmingham NEC on November 11-12th.

Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions – the company organising the car’s sale – said: “Only Fools and Horses has a fan base spanning several generations and is something of a British treasure, so to have the van from the series for auction is a real treat which will no doubt draw the crowds.”

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “Whoever ends up buying Del Boy’s Reliant Regal will be the owner of a very special and distinctive slice of British TV comedy.”
