Closures planned for Tollbar End scheme

Written by: Neil

Highways England – the new government-owned body responsible for nationwide transport network management – has announced several overnight closures as part of the ongoing Tollbar End improvement scheme near Coventry.

Travellers in the area are advised the B4110 London Road towards Tollbar island is now closed each evening until April 10th between the hours of 20:00 BST to 06:00.

Engineers are in the process of installing new street lighting ducting for the route, as well as replacing essential road markings.

A second set of closures will then take place from April 15th to 17th for the A45 Stonebridge Highway over the same hours, as engineers shift their attention to further ducting works, in addition to the creation of new drainage for the carriageway.

Highways England assistant project manager Tristan Hall said: "The closures are necessary for the safety of our workforce and we are undertaking this work overnight to minimise disruption to road users.

"During the closures, diversions will be in place and we advise motorists to allow extra time for their journeys on these dates. The diversion routes may be unfamiliar to some drivers so we urge them to take extra care and to drive safely."

The Tollbar End improvement scheme was launched in January last year and is scheduled for completion by autumn 2016.

It is set to cost an estimated £106 million, but the benefits of changes being made to the carriageway will include a significant reduction in congestion in the years ahead, as well as increased access for traffic to Coventry Airport and several other major local business hubs.
