Nico Rosberg completed a hat-trick of victories in the third race of the 2016 Formula 1 season on Sunday (April 17th), capitalising on some ill fortune for his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to build a considerable lead in the championship.
Rosberg served up another faultless weekend of driving to lead from start to finish in China, with the result meaning the German ace has now registered six consecutive victories from last year to this and now stands peerlessly atop the driver's championship rankings.
It was a bad weekend that started off poorly for Hamilton and then got worse, with a five-place grid penalty compounded by a failure of his car's electrics in the run-up to qualifying that saw the Brit start from the back of the grid.
An unlucky collision on the opening lap also saw him forced into an early pitstop for a new front wing, but from there he was able to claw his way back through the pack to finish in a respectable seventh come the chequered flag.
Other highlights of the race included a close call between the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel and Daniil Kvyat's Red Bull, which saw the German drive into his teammate Kimi Raikkonen on the opening lap, effectively putting paid to both drivers' chances of a win.
Vettel and Kvyat were, perhaps, the unlikely winners of the race weekend though, bringing home their cars in second and third place respectively.
Now the attention turns to Russia for the fourth round of this thrilling championship season.
Hamilton knows that failure to close the gap on his Mercedes teammate cannot be an option in what promises to be another excitement-filled outing, so with the bit between his teeth we're hoping for another great race – albeit with a bit more wheel-to-wheel action at the front of the grid!
