Purple supercars seem to be ‘in’ this month. Just a couple of weeks ago, Jamiroquai’s cosmic purple Lambo popped up on Auto Trader and now, we’ve stumbled upon this fuchsia-finished bespoke McLaren 720S.
This unique specimen surfaced last week at the illustrious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California. It was crafted by McLaren’s Special Operations (MSO) to the specification of entrepreneur, philanthropist and self-proclaimed ‘car freak’ Michael Fux, who has a thing for fuchsia after ordering a Rolls-Royce and 12C Spider in bespoke purple, as well as a green P1 and orange 12C; proof if ever you needed it that you can’t buy taste.
Jolyon Nash, McLaren Automotive’s executive director of global sales and marketing, said the brand’s Special Operations division provides owners with “virtually limitless possibilities to tailor a car exactly to their needs and tastes”.
Buyers can choose from unique paint colours and finishes, custom leather and stitching and exotic materials when speccing their bespoke commission.
As well as draping the exterior, the distinctive fuchsia hue also appears on the lightweight wheels, while inside, it pops up on the door appliqués, the steering wheel and rear-view mirror.
Powered by a 3,994cc twin turbocharged V8 with 720PS (hence the name), the 710bhp 720S can blast off to 62mph in a thunderous 2.9 seconds, with a 212mph top speed.
This kind of performance explains why it costs so much, with prices starting from £208,600 for the Coupe, rising to £335,000 for the MSO-developed Coupe Velocity.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “The 720S is special in any form and this bespoke fuchsia example is like no other.”
