The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) will return this weekend (April 1-2) and 2017’s season is being hyped as the best yet with its most successful starting grid to date.
Of the 32 racers set to compete, 16 of them are race winners with 329 victories shared between them.
They’ll all do battle once more as Kent’s Brands Hatch stages the first of 30 races for this year’s BTCC on its 1.2 mile Indy circuit.
Honda’s Gordon Shedden claimed his third BTCC title during 2016’s contest, edging out seven other drivers who also could have triumphed. The Scotsman is sure to face a tough challenge yet again if he is to be named champion for three years in a row, an achievement that would match Andy Rouse’s record from more than 30 years ago.
2017’s championship will mark the return of Vauxhall with the Astra, while BMW will join the fold with a trio of 125i M Sports, alongside Honda, Subaru and MG.
Some 30 races will be held across ten events at nine different venues around the UK, and if you can’t make it to any of the races in person, all of them will be televised on ITV4 and online at itv.com/btcc.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, adds: “Last year’s BTCC had a real nail-biting finish and with two new high-profile names in the mix this time, 2017’s championship promises to be the best yet.”
