Bridgeworks to benefit Gloucestershire motorists

Written by: Neil

Highways England has announced a new £860,000 investment that will benefit travellers using the M4 in south Gloucestershire in the years ahead.

Getting underway on July 20th,  the Winterbourne Lane Bridge between junctions 19 and 20 will undergo an essential six-week maintenance programme to ensure its structural validity for the foreseeable future, with engineers making use of a scaffold platform spanning the width of the B4057 beneath the bridge for the duration of the project.

As such, users of the road are to be subject to a series of signposted diversions while the work is carried out, with Highways England having planned the project carefully to limit disruption as much as possible.

Project sponsor Chris Pope stated: "Traffic flow data showed that the B4057 is far less busy during the school summer holidays and after close consultation with South Gloucestershire Council, who operate the road, we agreed July and August would be the best time to complete the work.

"We have carefully analysed the impact on traffic and this shows that delays should be less than ten minutes but we would like to advise drivers to allow slightly extra time to complete their journeys."

Drivers planning journeys in the area over the coming weeks are advised the planned diversion route will take in the A4058 (Winterbourne High Street/Hill), Bristol Road and the Old Gloucester Road, before rejoining the B4057 at Beacon lane.
