BMW has finally revealed all on the upcoming 8 Series Coupe and it looks like the premium German car maker has served up another winner.
The car marks the return of the 8 Series nameplate after a rest of almost 20 years. It’ll be the first of three body styles, with a convertible and four-door Gran Coupe set to join the range over the next year.
It may be a new name, but the 8 Series Coupe is essentially a shortened version of the 7 Series. Stretching for 4,843mm, 1,341mm wide and 1,902mm tall, it is also a little shorter in height but retains the same width as the 7 Series.
In terms of engines, the 8 Series Coupe will be offered as the 840d diesel and M850i petrol.
The 840d makes use of a three-litre six-pot engine with 320bhp and 680Nm of torque, but the M850i is the one we’re really excited about.
This variant calls on a 530bhp 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can blast the 8 Series Coupe to 62mph in 3.7 seconds with a limited top speed of 155mph.
However, it’s the M8 that will really chime with speed freaks – this version will be the fastest and most powerful BMW ever, using 625bhp to cover 0-62mph in a supercar-rivalling 3.3 seconds.
The 8 Series Coupe is available to order now with prices starting from £76,270 for the diesel, rising to £100,045 for the M850i.
Get your order now in now and you could have an 8 Series Coupe on your driveway by November.
Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “This is a triumphant return of the 8 Series name and anyone looking for the ultimate in sporting luxury will find the 8 Series hard to resist.”
