Audi ups the power output for range-topping Q2

Written by: Neil

Audi’s Q2 compact SUV has been phenomenally popular since its arrival last year and a new, more powerful version is now on the way.

The new Q2 2.0 TFSI quattro 190PS S tronic will be the punchiest variant in the Q2 range, with enough grunt to complete the 0-62mph benchmark sprint in 6.5 seconds before going on to 141mph.

This uplift in power output (187bhp) is aided by the addition of Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive, which makes it the first petrol-powered Audi to be able to make such a claim.

The quattro system’s electro hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch distributes torque continuously between the axles to ensure optimal traction and handling on any kind of road.

Its seven-speed S tronic uses a freewheeling mode, which means when the standard Audi drive select handling system is set to ‘efficiency’ mode, the engine automatically shuts off when speed drops to 4.3mph.

Fuel economy is often neglected at the expense of a focus on performance but that’s not necessarily the case here, with CO2 emissions of 144g/km and up to 44.8mpg combined.

Audi’s most powerful Q2 is only available in the upper-end S line and top-flight Edition #1 trim levels.

This means it comes as standard with LED headlights, an LED interior lighting pack, S line interior and exterior styling cues, 18-inch alloy wheels, C-pillar blades in matt titanium grey and front sports seats.

There’s plenty of tech too, with the inclusion of the Audi Smartphone Interface, SD card-based MMI Navigation and Audi connect infotainment service package, light and rain sensors and Audi drive select.

Edition #1 models come into their own with 19-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, the exclusive Quantum grey paint, a black styling pack, Manhattan grey contrast bumpers, wheel arch trims, side skirts and bumper inserts, as well as brilliant black C-pillar blades bearing the Audi rings.

Inside, the cabin is furnished with sports seats in granite grey fine nappa leather with amaretto brown contrast stripes and stitching, a multi-coloured LED interior lighting pack and floor mats with brown contrast stitching.

This new range-topping Q2 is available to order now, with prices between £31,760 and £36,750.

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, comments: “There was never any doubt that the Q2 would be a mammoth success for Audi and it’s a dead cert that this new version will only boost sales.”
