Luxury vehicle manufacturer Aston Martin has unveiled its new Rapide S four-door sports saloon variant in front of expectant crowds in London this week.
The first full-electric Aston model, the new RapidE was showcased at Lancaster House yesterday (October 21st) and is a concept the company is keen to see pushed forward in the months ahead.
Also unveiled as part of the event was Aston Martin’s new joint venture with Chinese investment group ChinaEquity, which will look into the development a full production version of the RapidE.
When completed, the new model will be built at Aston Martin’s global HQ in Gaydon, Warwickshire and could see its first sales within two years.
Aston Martin chief executive officer Dr Andy Palmer said: “We see luxury electric vehicles as an intrinsic part of our future product portfolio and welcome ChinaEquity into the next phase of study for the project development.
“The exciting RapidE concept tangibly demonstrates the capability and ambition of Aston Martin towards developing low- and zero-emission sports cars.”
Following the meeting, chairman Chaoyong Wang of ChinaEquity added: “We are delighted that Aston Martin not only provides a high performance driving experience to customers, but also show their social responsibility by showcasing a new generation of electric car with zero emissions.”
